Shaw Media wanted to relaunch their Pro Football Weekly news publication by celebrating the best 50 football players and coach of the last 50 years. Along with selecting the best 50 players and coach themselves, Shaw Media also wanted to drive the public towards their relaunched Pro Football Weekly website and encourage the public to submit their own personal team of the best 50 players and coach of the last 50 years.


Contest Factory and Shaw Media decided together to run a User-Generated-Content (UGC) sweepstakes called the Pro Football Weekly Team for the Ages Sweepstakes. During the sweepstakes, users would be able to go to the Pro Football Weekly site and select from 306 players and coaches the top 50 players and coach to make their own Team for the Ages. Each time a player or coach was selected for a team, it would count as one vote for that player or coach to be selected as part of Pro Football Weekly’s own Team for the Ages, making it a competition for the public to sign up and support their favorite players and coach. Daily and weekly winners were also randomly selected throughout the promotion to win prizes such as embroidered hats and jackets. At the end of the promotion period, three winners would be randomly selected to win a tailgate prize package, two winners would be randomly selected to win $2,500 cash prizes and one grand prize would be randomly selected for win a trip to the 2019 Big Game in Atlanta.


Contest Factory designed and implemented a branded sweepstakes site that was fully integrated onto Shaw Media’s Pro Football Weekly website. Users registered to the site and were able to view each player’s and coach’s biography and career milestones before deciding on whether to vote for him into the Team for the Ages.

To monitor the promotion’s effectiveness, Contest Factory’s Viral DNA analytics software provided Shaw Media with real-time data on user registrations, team submissions, number of votes each player/coach had received, and the number of times each team or player/coach was shared by the users on social media.


The sweepstakes promotion was a huge success for Shaw Media, leading to thousands of new users visiting Pro Football Weekly’s relaunched site and delivering thousands of new leads for Shaw Media.
